Origin of a name...

Since the start of the team in 2012, there have been many inquiries, myself included, regarding the name Bosom Buddies.  Each year I do get a couple people who ask its meaning and I thought it would be a good idea to put it in writing.

Yes, when used in isolation, as part of the English language, the word bosom generally means a woman's breast, therefore it may seem uncomfortable to use the word as part of our team name.

However, there is no need for the discomfort. If you do a quick search on Google, you will see why.  This explanation was the best one I found.

The term "bosom friend" is the original english term which is used a lot in old books. It comes from the Latin phrase "sodalis pectoris" which means "friend/companion of the soul/bosom", because the Romans believed that the heart and the chest were the seat of the soul. As for the buddy part; The word buddy is an American word, and not widely used anywhere else. Somewhere over the course of 1900's the word swap was used & instantly caught on because of it's alliteration. It definitely caught on in the entertainment industry; a few songs and a TV show were named the phrase."

Yes, the team name was selected specifically because of my breast cancer diagnosis, but it means so much more than boobs, breasts, and/or bosoms.  The team name truly represents us, "friends and companions of the soul".  Together we work towards the common goal to make a difference!

Thank you for being a part of our awesome team,
Team Bosom Buddies!

Shout Outs

If you're on facebook, don't forget to give a Shout Out to the people who have made a donation to you for the Relay.  First and foremost, it's the polite thing to do.  Secondly, it seems to have a ripple effect because it shows up in various news feeds and prompts others to spread kindness as well.  It may seem a little over the top, but it's an easy way to help the word travel.

Also, if you haven't heard already, we're ordering sweatshirts, both crews and hoodies, and long sleeve tees.  If you're interested, email me or leave a message on the Bosom Buddies Page on Facebook.

A Sighting...

There has been a Bosom Buddies sighting.

At the team captain's meeting tonight, it was noted that one of our very own is #2 on the Top 3 Fundraising Individual list.  Way to go Beth!

If you haven't already registered for this year's walk, here is the link to join our team.  We would love to have you.

This year the American Cancer Society is urging all participants to try to raise at least $100.  For all those who do, you will get an event t-shirt.

We are looking into getting Sweatshirts and Long Sleeve Crews with our Bosom Buddies logo.  Details on that are coming soon.  We also have some t-shirts available for purchase.  Please email me if you're interested.

Luminaria...

At the Relay kick off meeting the other night, it was emphasized that they would like to really "push" the luminaria bags this year, so that the entire track is lined with the lumineries. I took quite a few bags, so if you would like to decorate one and/or think you would like some to sell, let me know and I will get them to you. They are $10 each. The sales from the bags will go to our team total.

Perhaps having the option of getting a luminaria bag to decorate would be incentive for some people to donate.

If you order the luminaria bags online, you will not have the option to decorate them; someone will decorate them for you.

Let's get this party started....

I thought it might be a good idea to start a blog to keep in contact with everyone and be able to spread the word in an efficient manner.  Those of you who know me well also know I'm a bit of a control freak, so this sort of helps fill that need too.  Hopefully I don't drive you all away...

If you haven't signed up to be a team member yet, we would love to have you.  Follow this link to join now.   If you would rather not join online, I also have registration forms and envelopes I can get to you.  Just let me know.

Within the next month I will also be setting up a page where we will auction items to be sold to help raise some more money.  I'll need your help in spreading the word to everyone you know.  More information to come...

I'm looking forward to this year's event and I hope all of you are too.  Let's get this party started!
